THE THOUGHTFUL GUIDE TO SUFISM
The Thoughtful Guide series is for serious spiritual seekers looking to deepen their knowledge of a particular region. It offers not primarily text books for the library, though they can be used as such, but accessible overviews of the history and the benefits that a particular religious practice can bring to the reader. The authors eschew fundamentalism and excessive simplifications, mapping out paths that can be followed with the mind as well as heart. Sufism is the heart of Islam. Its key is an inner light and awakening, an outer courtesy and service to humanity. It relates to Islam much as the mystical tradition does to Christianity, but far more prominently. With authors like Rumi achieving all-time popularity, Sufism is increasingly acknowledged as a spiritual answer to modern materialism. This introductory guide describes its origins and background, the relationship with Islam, and its spread throughout the world. It covers what it means to be a Sufi and the relevance of Sufism in modern life. Biographies of prominent Sufis and a selection of writing make this an indispensable guide to this profound tradition.

THE THOUGHTFUL GUIDE TO ISLAM
The Thoughtful Guide series is for serious spiritual seekers looking to deepen their knowledge of a particular region. It offers not primarily text books for the library, though they can be used as such, but accessible overviews of the history and the benefits that a particular religious practice can bring to the reader. The authors eschew fundamentalism and excessive simplifications, mapping out paths that can be followed with the mind as well as heart. Islam is the fastest growing religion in North America, and the world, with well over a billion followers. Since September 11, the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq, and the ongoing war against terror, the world has seemed to be heading inexorably towards greater confrontation between Muslim and non-Muslim cultures. At a time when communities increasingly tend to view each other with suspicion, this book cuts through the morass of misunderstanding and misinformation to give a true and timely overview of the universality and light of the prophetic message of Islam. It explains its history and development, the distinction between the original message and the traditions that have grown up around it, the life of Islam today, its potential for bringing unity, and speculates on its future. Selections from key Islamic writings make this a classic introduction to the Islamic tradition for today.

GUN RUNNING AND THE INDIAN NORTH WEST FRONTIER
A mere glance at the map is not adequate to understand the tribal dispositions, the natural divisions, the artificial frontiers, and the character of the country of which the North-West Frontier was made up. It needs an in depth investigation by exploring the region both politically and geographically. The North-West Frontier Province of British India was formed in 1901, out of the trans-Indus districts of the Punjab. However, unprecedented events that took place as a direct result of the suppression of the arms traffic in the Persian Gulf led to the crisis on the frontier in the autumn of 1910. People began to realise that if the arming of the Pathan belt continued, a frontier rising in the future would be an affair of infinitely more gravity than ever before. But in spite of this, the operations of the blockading squadron in the Persian Gulf were not sufficiently recognised as an integral part of British frontier policy. With this in mind, the author ventured on emphasizing the connection between the operations of the blockading squadron and the preservation of peace on the Pathan border.
