Ziaul Haque took his MA (Economics) from the University of Sindh in 1963; MA (Arabic & Islamic Studies) from the University of Chicago, USA, 1972; and PhD (Arabic and Islamic Studies) from Chicago, 1975. He worked as a Researcher/Associate Professor in the Islamic Research Institute, Islamabad, from 1964 to 1984. He was also associated with the Pakistan Institute of Development Economics (Islamabad) as a Consultant. He specializes in the economic history of early Islam and the Middle East. He was editor of the quarterly research journal, Islamic Studies (Islamabad), from 1975 to 1950. He is the author of “Landlord and Peasant in Early Islam”, which has been appreciated throughout the world as an original contribution towards our understanding of the economic history of early Islam.
