The book Pakistan: Partition, Politics and Society deals with three themes i.e. the issues related to the partition of 1947 and its aftermath; multiple political concerns and social issues of Pakistan. The book provides perspectives and scholarly contributions on the historical and contemporary dynamics of Pakistan. It offers fresh interpretations and research on the Partition of British India in 1947 especially on the themes of evacuee property, memory and material belongings of the migrants to Pakistan. With a focus on politics, the book examines Pakistan’s political evolution, shedding light on both historical and contemporary political challenges. This includes discussions on governance, democracy, civil-military relations, politics and history of Balochistan and the role of political institutions i.e. Federal Cabinet and Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz in shaping Pakistan’s trajectory. By connecting historical events to present-day challenges, it offers valuable insights into the ongoing processes of nation-building and statecraft in Pakistan. Besides discussion on evolving middle-class identity in Sindh, it delves into critical social problems of contemporary Pakistan including security challenges, honour-killing, rise of population etc. which need immediate attention of the policy-makers. It is a valuable addition in the existing literature on Pakistan.
