Kurt Beals is an associate professor of German at Washington University in St. Louis. He is the author of Wireless Dada: Telegraphic Poetics in the Avant-Garde; translator of books by Anja Utler, Regina Ullmann, Reiner Stach, and Jenny Erpenbeck; and coeditor of Hans Richters Rhythmus 21: Schlusselfilm der Moderne (Hans Richter's Rhythmus 21: Key Film of Modernism). In 2010 he was a finalist for the Best Translated Book Award for Anja Utler's engulf – enkindle, and in 2012 he won the first ever German Book Office Translation Prize.
