When a woman with brains and beauty from a wealthy background decides to take her fate into her own hands and challenge the restrictions of a male-oriented, conservative society, the consequences can be devastating. Born into one of Pakistan’s most influential families, Tehmina Durrani was raised in the privileged milieu of Lahore high society, and educated at the same school as Benazir Bhutto. Like all women of her rank, she was expected to marry a prosperous Muslim from a respectable family, bear him many children, and lead a sheltered life of air-conditioned leisure. When she married Mustafa Khar, one of Pakistan’s most eminent political figures, she continued to move in the best circles, and learned to keep up the public facade as a glamorous, cultivated wife, and mother of four children. In private, however, the story-book romance of the most talked-about couple in Pakistan rapidly turned sour. Mustafa Khar became violently possessive and pathologically jealous, and succeeded in cutting his wife off from the outside world. For the course of the fourteen-year marriage, she suffered alone, in silence.
When Tehmina decided to rebel, the price she paid was extremely high: as a Muslim woman seeking a divorce, she signed away all financial support, lost the custody of her four children, and found herself alienated from her friends and disowned by her parents.
Following the divorce, she felt she had to tell her story. When Pakistan publishers balked at the controversial nature of her manuscript, she published it herself. The book was a bombshell and shook Pakistani society to its foundations. Her at last was someone who had succeeding in reconciling her faith in Islam with her ardent belief in women’s rights. Tehmina’s story, adapted now for western readers, provides extraordinary insights into the vulnerable position of women caught in the complex web of Muslim society.

Letters to a Young Poet is a collection of letters written by the poet Rainer Maria Rilke to an aspiring poet Franz Xaver Kappus, a 19-year-old military cadet at Theresian Military Academy in Wiener Neustadt. Kappus wrote letters to Rilke to seek advice on his poetry. Even though Rilke avoided commenting on his work directly, he did give some general advice to him. Published in 1929, Letters to a Young Poet gives an insight about poetry, subtle observations required by a poet and the mysterious workings of the human heart. Rilke s advice to the young poet also reflects his sensitive observations of cruelty around him and his efforts to seek love, comfort, and truth in a complicated and treacherous world.

This book is a testament to the great work that Vandana has done for the food and ecological movements.
-Carlo Petrini, Founder, Slow Food
Vandana Shiva is the most brilliant woman I know; she is impressive, with a global knowledge of the environmental problems created, above all, by social disorders and the selfishness of short-term power.
-Gilles-?ric S?ralini, molecular biologist and co-author of The Monsanto Papers
Vandana Shiva?s brilliant, discerning mind, granite character, poetic soul, and her galvanising skills as a grassroots organiser have won her place in the pantheon of the most effective and beloved leaders of the global environmental movement.
-Robert F. Kennedy Jr., environmental lawyer
This beautifully-written memoir is a compelling narrative which should be read by everyone who loves land, life and the integrity of our precious Planet Earth.
-Satish Kumar, Founder, Schumacher College
Reading this book will open your mind to the causes of the deep problems we have been pushed into by the actions of a few, and give you hope and courage to reverse the downward spiral.
-Hans R. Herren, Founder and President, Biovision Foundation
Terra Viva is one of the most remarkable books I have ever read. It is an awe-inspiring tale of multiple struggles against multiple injustices against people and our environment? Vandana?s life story shows that she is one of our most extraordinary leaders like Mahatma Gandhi and Dr Martin Luther King.
-Andr? Leu, International Director, Regeneration International
Terra Viva chronicles Vandana?s thoughts, knowledge, convictions, and a sustained commitment to movement-building and maintenance of life. Thank you, Vandana, for the generous offering of this testament, this living book, this sharing of your life.

Even in his youth as a prince among thousands of princes, Mohammed bin Salman nurtured sweeping ambitions. He wanted power – enough of it to reshape his hyper-conservative, insular Islamic kingdom.
When his elderly father took the throne in 2015, MBS got his chance. As the hands-on-ruler, he made seismic changes, working doggedly to overhaul the kingdom’s economy, loosen its strict Islamic social codes and confront nearby enemies, especially Iran. His vision initially won fans at home and abroad as he convinced other nations that the moment had come to bet big on Saudi Arabia. Over time, however, the sheen of the visionary young reformer has tarnished, leaving many wondering whether MBS is actually an aspiring dictator whose lack of experience and rash decisions are destabilizing the world’s most volatile region.
Based on years of reporting and hundreds of covert interviews, MBS provides new insights into Saudi Arabia’s catastrophic military intervention in Yemen, the bizarre detention of the Lebanese prime minister, the surprise arrest of hundreds of princes and businessmen, and the greatest scandal of the young prince’s rise: the brutal murder of Saudi journalist Jamal Khashoggi by Saudi state officials with links to MBS – a crime that shocked the world.
A riveting portrait of a determined autocrat on the rise, MBS asks how one man’s actions and obsessions are shaking the Middle East.
